This series is based on a set of rules that Hyungmin Moon formulated in terms of statistics. As he scans magazines such as “Art in America,” “New Yorker,” “Playboy,” or “Vogue”, the computer analyzes the 10 most appeared words and colors on an yearly basis. And he assigns each 10 words with 10 colors in the order of the most mentioned word with the most employed color, completing the color-word combination. Then, the frequency of those top 10 colors is converted to a permyriad value so as to comply with 10,000 precisely cross-sectioned squares on the canvas. As he fills the squares, this complicated process is concealed beneath the surprisingly straightforward looking color field. In the look of minimalist painting, the resulting vibrant canvas demonstrates his sophisticated, yet witty interpretation and conceptualization of social issues.
A contemporary art gallery, showcasing works by establishing and emerging artists from Korea, Asia and beyond.
